What is Search Marketing?

Search marketing is one of the most effective ways to get your business, products and services in front of the right eyeballs. It is the practice of using both organic and paid strategies to appear at the very top of the SERP.

The two most common strategies are:

  • Search engine optimisation (SEO): The process of making your website as Google-friendly as possible, thereby improving your ranking in Google and other search engines for relevant queries.
  • Search engine marketing (SEM): Paying for advertising space in Google and other search engines for the most relevant queries.

Why is Search Marketing important?

Search marketing is unique in that it instantly puts your product or service in front of a customer who is ready to buy at that exact moment, something no other form of marketing can offer.

84% of Kiwi internet users search for products and services online, and 70% actually buy those products and services online. Paid and organic search drives no less than 68% - over two thirds - of all trackable website traffic. This makes search marketing the most critical part of any business’s marketing plan, no matter their industry or offering.

At Growth Partners our aims reflect your objectives. We can help you to set quantifiable search marketing goals, then lay out a roadmap to achieve them.

What is the difference between SEO and SEM?

Search marketing is the combination of two different yet equally important elements: search engine optimisation (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM).

SEO is an organic strategy. Your website is optimised in a way that leads Google or any other search engine to see it as the most relevant and trustworthy result for a given query, thus placing you high in the search engine result pages. This is a long term effort that generally takes months to bear fruit, but the rewards for your work can be incredible (as seen in the testimonials below). You could potentially see your company being served up to ready-to-buy customers without having to give Google a cent.

SEM is a paid strategy. Unlike SEO, it guarantees that you’ll be shown at the top of the SERP, as part of the handful of results marked with the word ‘Ad’ at the very top of the page. In order to show up in these results, advertisers bid on the keywords and phrases that they’d like to be displayed for, and only pay when their ad is clicked (hence why these are sometimes referred to as pay per click/PPC ads.
